Digging Deep.
Many years ago I was sent out to fix an electrical fault in a small sports pavilion. Apparently they had extended the outside lighting around the carpark area and now the circuit fuse protection had started failing.
I immediately went out and started to look for the obvious electrical problems. Was the fuse rating too small for the load
capacity? etc. But everything looked ok. However, the fuse kept on failing.
After a few hours of inspecting, testing and looking around I managed to isolate the fault to one particular section of cable. Unfortunately it ran underground from the building to the carpark. I suspected that some groundwork had been done to the grassy area and the cable damaged during the process. But the staff assured me that no one had been working around that area.
Still, I started to dig a small trench close to the building to see if I could see anything. Lo and behold I quickly found a damaged section of cable. After some testing I decided that this was the cause of the main fault and repaired the damaged section by cutting it out and replacing it with new cable. I also took the time to replace the fuses with newer, more modern ones. The lights worked fine after that. I figured out that the cable had been damaged some time ago but as the management added more lights to the carpark it put more stress onto the fault and then the fuse started failing.
When thinking back about this particular job I came to realise that there are things in our Christian lives that aren’t quite right, but since we aren’t doing too much in God’s work it doesn’t really matter. They can stay underground.
But as we grow in the Faith, and God adds more onto our lives it soon becomes apparent that any small niggling faults that were there soon start to get in the way. Just like that lighting circuit – Everything worked along nicely right up until they added the extra lights for the carpark. Then the added pressure on the damaged cable caused problems for the circuit.
And so it is in our Faith-Life. Everything’s fine until God starts to move us into the deeper things of our life.
Sometimes God will have to dig deeply into our lives to get at an old, long buried fault. Particularly if He needs us to be prepared for something new in the future. More lights are going to be added and we need to be strong enough to handle it.
Luke Ch12 (48)“ …For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required….”
However, all is not doom and gloom. For, sometimes God has buried things deep in our past that will bear fruit in our futures. Painful experiences which will now come forth as strengths we never knew we had. And old friendships that will be joyously renewed. I have met and chatted with many people who can look and point to incidents in their lives before they were saved and admit that God had His hand in it all along.
John Ch12 (24)Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
1st Peter Ch2 (9)“…You are His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…”
And so we go through our lives thinking everything is good when suddenly God says, “There’s something I need you to do. But I have to prepare you first”. But it doesn’t happen that way all of the time. Sometimes God takes us through a difficult scenario to prepare us and then afterwards tells us He has something for us to do.
Deuteronomy Ch31 (8)And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed."
Ephesians Ch2 (10)For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Our Bible tells us…..
Romans Ch8 (28)And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
So, through our hardships and our difficulties just keep praying and thanking Him day by day. He will bring us to our blessings. And let us not forget that each and every one of us are part of God’s great Covenant, His plan and His Promise.
Therefore they shall come and sing in the heights of Zion.
And they shall flow together for the goodness of The Lord.
For wheat. For wine. For oil.
For the young of the flock and of the herd.
And as a watered garden shall their souls be.
And they shall not sorrow any more at all.
Jeremiah Ch31 v12 (Paraphrased)
