He Was There All The Time.

There have been many times in my life that I felt that I have been walking blindly through things. Or even just been so busy that I was concentrating on what was going on around me rather than looking to Jesus. I can think of times when I was involved in large employment schemes, or doing exams. Or even just getting along with life with my friendships and family life.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that I deliberately forgot about God in my life. I didn’t. But sometimes the “stuff” of life just requires my attention. But it has always been good to know that God was always there.

Isaac was leading a nomadic life in tents in the desert. He was almost sacrificed on an altar by his father Abraham. But as we can now sit and take a panoramic view of his life we can easily recognise that God was there all the time….

Genesis 26v3 Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you.

Jacob had a tumultuous lifestyle. Even from his mother’s womb he wrestled with his twin brother Esau. But it was Jacob who led into a land that would produce The Twelve Tribes of Israel…

Genesis 31v3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, "Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you."

Moses’ life started out as a luxurious one, having been brought up and educated in the courts of Pharaoh. But God had other plans for him. After a series of events Moses found himself in the far reaches of the wilderness tending sheep. But that’s where God made himself known to him…

Exodus 3v12 And God said, "I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain."

After Joshua had taken over the leadership of from Israel from Moses he led the tribes into a journey of wars and blessings. He fought the Battle of Jericho. And led the Children of Israel form the Sinai Desert into the land which would soon become known as Israel.

Joshua 1v5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

And so it has been with so many people throughout the bible. Gideon, while threshing the wheat, Judges 6v16. Solomon, as he ruled over his kingdom, 1st Kings 11v38. Isaiah was the one who foretold the first fall of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the rise of Persia as a world power, Isaiah 41v10, 43v2.

And God’s promised continued even when our Messiah came. Even after all the tumult of the 400 silent years between the old and new testaments, God was still there.

And several times through the training of the disciples Jesus reassured them by telling them that He would always be with them. Matthew 28v20, John13v33.

And His promise still holds true today. A friend of mine in our local bible study group shared with me this thought – “We, in this day and age are at the exact point God wants us to be. We are part of his 6000 year plan. We need to remember what it cost Jesus to put us here at this point in time”.

Ultimately, God never promised to fix all our problems for us. He simply promised that he would always be with us. We just need to keep worshipping Him and loving Him. He will do the rest.

He was there all the time.
He was there all the time.
Something happened. And now I know.
He was there all the time.
